Sealing Roof Terrace

Postby jogger » Tue Oct 03, 2017 7:50 pm

Hi, today I sealed the roof terrace with Amarto Inperama which was recommended by our local ferretaria. I put one coat on today at about 3pm and it says it can be re-coated after 3 hours but it is still tacky at 8pm. Is this normal and will it eventually dry so I can put on the second coat tomorrow? It did say add 10% water which I did.

Thanks
Roy

Had a quick look on the Amarto product on the web.
Looks like a caucho (which are water-based), and like an emulsion paint, which dries to a rubbery (impermeable) layer.
Layer can also be reinforced with fibreglass matting, where it is to be done under floor tiles.

Should be ok to re-coat within 3 hours, even if still a bit tacky.
Try not to dilute any more than essential.
Best applied thickly by woolly ('sheepskin') roller.
Ideally, aim for a finished thickness of 3mm absolute minimum.

An outstanding product of this type is TKrom's 'Antigotteras' - available in white, terracotta, blue, etc. Pinturas Andalucia stock it.

Thanks TDA , it's still tacky this evening so I'll leave it and hopefully it will be dry by Saturday when we have some people coming around......

Most cauchos dry as quickly as emulsion paint.
I'd be a bit suspicious of one that doesn't.
Try putting a little water on your coated surface, and rub with a sponge. If the coating dissolves or comes away at all, don't rely on it to do its job - overpaint with the TKrom product above. I've had bad experience with a couple of brands of caucho.

The best Cauchos by far from my experience down here are "Con Fibre", their durability and covering power are superb, well worth the extra dosh!

Could you use Caucho for walls in houses?

I've used it outside to great effect on an old wall that shows cracks ( Earth and Boulders rendered), I did give it an overcoat of Pintura Plastica for greater whiteness however.

Am about to try this (in the next month or so) on an outside house wall which is prone to hairline cracking (corresponding to block joints under the render) and heavy weathering.
Pinturas Andalucia have said that TKrom Antigotteras can be used on exterior walls, and as an impermeable undercoat under exterior emulsions.
