HomeServe Endesa - worth it?

Postby costacab » Fri Jul 27, 2018 2:15 pm

We recently moved house and got new electricity contract with Endesa which also includes a HomeServe contract for the first year and then we renew after that at a higher price. I don't usually sign up to this sort of thing but as we're new to the area and don't yet have our own network electricians etc and it covers failed electrical appliances and we've inherited some old ones with the house, was wondering if anyone else is with HomeServe and whether they'd recommend it or is it just money down the drain?

Like any form of insurance whether it is a good thing for you will depend on your financial situation. If you could easily afford to simply replace or even repair anything that stops working the premiums may be wasted money - at least if you never end up making a claim.
My father-in-law never paid any insurance (other than motor) in his life, and was thousands in pocket over his lifetime, only having had one small fire that he paid cash to get sorted.
The other end of the spectrum is those like on the ‘payday loan’ ads, who do not have any buffer and would be in trouble if the car needed repair, or the washing machine broke.

My electric company in the UK offered / joined forces with Home Serve - it was free for 6 months then pay. I took the free 6 months & then cancelled it :-)

I would probably check the t&c´s - it might not actually cover older appliences, only new a+ rated ones, something like that - they are not going to cover everything...

I've never taken out insurance on any thing other than home, car and travel..Until recently i took a £25 insurance out on my specs which covers me for 2 years...considering I've usually done something stupid like sitting on them within only a few months of purchase i thought it was worth paying.
