We have a problem with Uncajar bank.
Every year or two they require the account holders to provide financial information to prevent "money laundering" My relative,s account is " frozen" and he has been asked for his " TIN "number. I understand that this is a tax ID . and he requires this as a non resident .
He had hoped that his National Insurance number would suffice....but apparently no go ....
I'm not out there currently so need to advise at a distance !
Any information would be much appreciated..

Most banks will not be satisfied with solely the number. They will also require, in the case of a UK citizen, a copy of the most recent P60 or HMRC tax return.
