Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
I'm not sure of your current status but logic tells me that you first require Spanish citizenship, before you apply for the passport !
Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
yes it's all part of the same process I am currently Uk citizen resident here for 20 years, in order to apply for spanish citizenship / nationality I need to do among other things the tasks mentioned in the initial post and am looking for any guidance / experience available on who to contact to do this

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
Ok, the first thing you need to do is get a letter from the Chief constable of the County you were last living in (I know this because my cousin took Swedish citizenship and had to go through this process) once they have established that you are not a serious threat then the process moves ahead, sorry I can't be of more help but an English friend of mine (who is now a Spanish citizen) has told me that they will not issue a Passport to you until you have achieved citizenship, ie one comes before the other, good luck with it

Hi
As Sid has just said - this is what you need: https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised - very straightforward I did it a couple of years ago as part of an inheritance.

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
To become a Spanish resident and have a Spanish passport do you not need to pass the history and speaking test ?
Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
That is certainly my understanding.
I did the cultural/history/government etc one in November (and passed!) and am doing the Spanish language one tomorrow.....

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
hi Unicorn, how did it go with the language exam?
Is the pass rate the same as the other exam 60%?
Is it correct that these exams are only scheduled on certain dates?

Hi Snorbs
I think it was OK but who knows?
Yes 60%. They lump writing and comprehension together, and speaking and listening......
I did mine locally, and yes, they seem to do them now and again.
Hope this helps..............

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
Incredible that they accept an A2 level really, I think you need a higher level than that just to understand the citizenship exam! For comparison, the UK and France require B1.
*In the European system, A1 is the most basic level recognised. It goes A1,A2,B1,B2,C1 and finally C2 which is considered near-native.

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
I agree in a way. The citizenship exam does require a reasonable level of comprehension, and some of the questions on the constitution are quite complex. It includes also history, geography, arts, education system etc etc.along with day to day taxes etc
I think it's Spanish language A2 because it demonstrates you can communicate verbally, by the written word, and understand (comprehension and listening).
I would say that the B1 English spoken is easier than the Spanish A2 spoken. For a start, in the English one there are two students and they talk to each other, ergo, they only have half the time and their interaction is less complex than one would be with the examiner.
In the Spanish one the candidate is on their own and there is a monologue, then a description of a picture, say a hotel lobby, a packed restaurant. Then a role-play between the examiner and candidate ie complaining about food being late in a restaurant with a waiter, and finding a solution, then yet another dialogue in the form of two people wanting different scenarios and finding an accord.
That is my opinion. I do help kids with B1 English and have just taken A1 Spanish, so it may have some validity!

Re: Obtaining Spanish passport
I have just signed up for end March CCSE and late May DELE.
How quickly do you get the results?
I am not going to start all the other paperwork until I have passed the exams.........

Hi Snorbs
The results of the nationality exam come in 20 days (and they did, too!)
The DELE say 3 month but the school said to me more like 6 weeks. Inst Cervant also send you a programme to practise the exam to put on your computer for 3 months. It costs 50 euros. It was quite helpful and has a full exam on it.
Oh, and Snorbs, do not forget to take your passport and entry docs to both. I saw many being turned away with other IDs.
