4K high intensity/discharge lightening storm 4am this morning

Postby gavilan » Sat Sep 14, 2019 1:06 pm

major and most unusual lightening storm around 4am this morning ... lightening coninuous for more than an hour ... it started from west of us ... then came closer, overhead ...with torrential rain ... loud cracks of thunder ... then passed up to La Maroma/Sierra Tejeda ... circled around Granada province and then seemed to head for Nerja ... never seen anything like it! ... anyone else experience this?

I saw it in the distance - almost non stop, and from where we are, no thunder.

It's part of the awful storm they have been having on the east coast.

Yes woke me up at about 4:30.
Most weird the continuous lightning flashes, just like being in a disco. Never seen anything like it before.
Very heavy rain.
All seems to have cleared this area now.
Areas around Valencia had it much worse than us yesterday.
I left Benidorm at about 9:00 AM and drove through some very heavy downpours. Flooding across the AP7/ A7.
Glad I left when I did as later on the AP7 was shut as one of the tunnels was flooded.
Cheers

Yeah i was outside at 5am bringing in the cushions before they drowned! Constant flashes every few seconds of lightening across the horizon. Very bright but with no real thunder. It was very bizarre.

gerryh ... I would not have liked to be driving in that storm ... videos of Malaga west show cars abandoned, being pushed by flood waters down streets etc ... scary stuff ...

We seem to have been sitting in between the weather. We have had two tiny showers that didn’t even register on the rain gauge!

This report shows just how bad it was on the east coast.

Never in 30 years of coming to Spain have we seen a lightning show like that. Had horrendous rain in the past but that storm was on a different level.

We hardly had any rain either and I was woken by the lightening about 5am. I have seen it like that before, can't remember if it was here or when we were in Menorca last year and had a terrific storm, but that constant flickering of lightening is quite something.

We've not had any serious rain for ages here and I keep thinking that one day the whole lot will fall in one day as it has done on the east coast. It was like that when we very first came here in 1996 and the rains came like monsoon after 5 years of drought and washed the motorway around Malaga clean away.

I´ve got the picture of the motorway from those years ago, it was my desktop for a while. I remember it, because we had to drive like 10km extra to avoid taking customers cars through the water...
