electrical query

Postby jennym » Sat Oct 08, 2005 9:45 am

Is it true that I can bring any electrical appliance from the UK and just have the plug changed to a spanish one and it will work normally? Also, I have some beautiful chandelliers that I would like to put in my villa but, I was told by a friend that I would not be able to get them to fit properly? Any advice please? (thanks)

No problem fitting chandelliers you can get them to fit properly if the ceiling is ok. I and others I know.. have the plug changed to a spanish one, seems to work quite normal.

as silver says, plugs can be changed, or even left as they are and use an adaptor. or fit english sockets in your house :D lol

but as for the chandalier, its all down to the fixing that you can get to hold it up. if the ceiling is a "normal" spanish one, it wont be very strong and you will have to do something special if they are heavy chandaliers.

easy answer would be dont touch them then :p

but no, you shouldn´t really, unles you have a booster attached to it, then you will. you´ll be getting shocks from the cable because it picks up a "static" charge from electric cables that run too close to it.

however, if it is installed correctly, it should be perfectly fine to touch it - the ariel should be in a seperate tube to the power cables :)

We have a large light fitting - chandellier - in our lounge. Various fittings can be obtained from a ferreteria depending on the make up of your ceiling. There are different sized hooks etc. and different ways to fix them into the ceiling. If you are doing it yourself you may have to look around, but if you are using an electrician he should be able to find the correct fitting for you.

Good luck.

indeed. either you´ll have to re-wire it (new bulb holders) or grab yourself a huge box of bulbs before you come over :D

Depending what sort of bulb fitting you have you can also change the bulb holder to an edison fitting and this would solve the problem of not being able to get bayonet style light bulbs.
