A friend of mine brought his african grey over to Spain some time ago, I'll have a word with him and let you know what he has to say.

Go to www.defra.govuk and send them an email asking about your parrots. They were very helpful when I asked about my dog and my husbands bonsai trees.

No fish, just trees and a dog.

The people we bought our house from, and who now live across the road, have parrotts which they brought from the UK. They tell me there are no particular restrictions to bringing them here.

They drove them down, so I don't know what restrictions airlines or ferries may have; best contact them direct.

I am flying my 2 cats over in February. Monach airlines, flying from Gatwick are licenced to carry pets. I phoned the animal cargo chappie at Gatwick and he gave all the information needed.
No. is 01753 686852
I`m sure he will sort the parrots out for you or start playing `speak Spanish in 6 weeks` CD and they should manage to ask directions and get good accomodation, then open cage and wave.

After this mornings news about a case of bird flu found in a parrot in the UK (in quarantine) I would expect the rules about import/export of parrots to change rapidly.

Howard,

We brought 3 Australian parrots over last year. We had to get forms from Defra and then get the birds inspected by a Defra registered vet. There are time limits regarding the number of days prior to transport that they must be seen and then transported. We drove down and needed separate forms for France and Spain. Needless to say, no-one asked us for the forms!!!

I think with this birdflu arriving in Europe that very soon there will be rules and regs in place for the transportation of birds.
Oh Yes! another day in paradise!

parrots

Postby Julie » Sun May 06, 2007 2:57 pm

Hi Howard

did you fly your parrots over to Spain?
I was told by monarch that they don't take them because flying in a plane can effect there hearing, so it was a case of in the car in the tunnel and that was that, but i did wonder about the ear problem.
I was sad to read about the parrot rescue on here the other day, ex pats leaving their parrots behind, so sad i thought, but i know you do need papers to take them back to the UK.

Hi Julie
Yes we employed a company to do the medical checks and paperwork and they flew them out for us the birds apparently had the customs in fits baby was singing "Don't laugh at me because I am a fool" and Alli shouting "Stop it you silly b*g**r" definitely no hearing problems or stress problems cant wait to be reunited with them Howard

Good to hear they are ok, my like yours never shuts up either, and goes to anyone anytime, unlike a lot of greys.

I hope they don't take up residency near us! 10 budgies and 2 parrots shrieking all day long next door drove us nuts last year - never want that again thanks.

Of course these may be lovely little things that only speak when spoken to and don't wake the dead all the time.
