American Bed Linen

Postby Kelly4 » Sun Nov 06, 2005 2:45 pm

Hello All

My Mum wants to buy some bed linen in the states for her village house over here. She hasn't bought the beds yet but we need to know whether a standard single/double bed is the same in the States as in Spain.

Cheers,

Kelly

I don't think 136cm is double size, it's more like 160-180cm!

That's what is known as "three quarter size" unless you're "Size challenged," If a single bed is 3ft wide how can a 4ft 6in bed be a double?
I wonder if any of the other posters can shed some light on the subject?

Syd, I'm with Lorraine on this one..............

Our bed is 5ft - UK king size - I bought some bed Linen by an American label for a "king size" bed & it did NOT fit, American king size must be 6ft thus making American queen size the same as UK kingsize?!!!!!

the ladies are right, USA bed sizes are much bigger than UK and "twice" the size of Spanish beds!

Spanish double around 130 cm UK standard about 140 - USA 150 - spanish beds seem to be shorter as well I think they are 180 - we had special beds made which where 180 x 190. USA kingsize

then theres Queen - only exists in USA and Kingsize which I would have thought was 180/180 in UK and Spain (special order only).

So unless you ship over USA beds USA sheets wont fit well on Spanish beds.

Glad to know I was correct and not just sized challenged!! beside's the fact that 136cm refered to width and not length, which I assume is refered to as size challenged

Posh and Lorraine you are getting carried away with descriptions, one persons Queen is anothers King.

I thought that 5ft was queen size and 6ft was king size.

4ft 6 is a very small double bed and is called ¨full¨ in US.

My wife buys all our bedlinen in USA, either from online shops or ebay as she adores the very best of Ralph Lauren et al.

We have a huge antique bed so we have sheets custom made in the UK.

First find the bedlinen range you want, and check sizes with supplier.

Then source the duvet and pillows elsewhere either locally or on internet.

Mike

Ralph Lauren was the US label I bought in King size & it didn't fit my kingsize bed - it was too big (American king size 6ft known as UK super king size) :(

I recently bought bed linen in Spain (from a UK supplier & from Dunnes) they were king size & fit my king size 5ft/150cm bed perfectly.
Our guest room has a 6ft/180cm bed which has the UK description "super king size"

Carried away with descriptions I might be.....but the fact of the matter it's written on the package labels

To make life easier on everyone & give you exact clarity....Here are the sizes..........Hope this helps & it should answer your question Kelly

Sorry, my previous posting didn't come out in the correct layout

You are all clever people & can see that I have put the sizes (in inches & Meters (I'm not sizest) for the US, UK, Australia & Europe, you just need to put the gaps between the imaginary columns! - Somehow my "gaps" have been deleted

I stand corrected, my wife and I are 5ft 10ins and 5ft 4ins respectively, and reasonably slim, the previous bed we had was bought from Kendals in Manchester (a well respected store) was 180 cm wide and 2 metres long, they told us it was a standard size double, it wasnt roomy enough for us so when we wanted to replace it we bought one two metres wide and two metres square we solved the problem of bedding by buying the under sheets (the ones we ly on) at at Ikea and we use two quilt covers, and quilts of course, each 1 metre 20 cm.
Whatever the sizes are (and I accept your quotes) I have still no Idea how two standard sized people can be comfortable in a bed 4ft six inches wide, especially in the summer when the heat is oppressive and arms and legs are constantly shifting, that's my story anyway!
