A friend, who is here on holiday, collapsed yesterday and was taken to hospital by ambulance. He returned home later in the evening, again by ambulance.
He hadn't brought an E111 form with him and is now wondering if he will receive a bill for his treatment. Does anyone know if this is likely to be the case?
Thanks.
Hospital treatment.

They have a copy of his passport.
I have heard that they have to treat emergencies, but many years ago I had to take one of my sons to casualty in France. I received a bill a year later.
If my friend is going to get a bill for 2 ambulance journeys plus heart monitoring etc, he's going to have to start saving!

friend , 3 yrs ago, had bad fall, and broke his neck ) bones only thank goodness)
had xrays, scans etc at Baza, ambulanced to Granada, to see specialist, ambulanced back, week in hospital or so. no e111, no insurance...nada.
only thing they wouldnt do for him was give him the surgical collar (made to measure) wrote out prescription , had to buy it himself, ...all of 30 euros...........
all the rest counted as emergency care.
no bill so far anyway and the people whose land he fell into ( long story) said they´d pay, but nothing has been asked for
