Rick Stein's Spain Tonight on BBC 2

Postby concorde » Thu Jul 14, 2011 2:46 pm

Just mentioning that Rick Stein has a new series tonight on BBC2 at 8pm (UK time)
Embarking on a culinary tour of the regions beginning with Galicia.

I've also been watching Channel 5 on Wednesday night at 7.30pm
That is a series about Mexican food and has been very watchable.
I'm always disappointed when a liar's pants don't actually catch on fire.

Yes, I'm looking forward to that too. I have just bought the book that accompanies the series and, as with all his books, is really good.

The Mexican cooking series is by Thomasina Myers - one of the few Masterchef winners to have achieved anything! She has also recently published a book - much better than other most Mexican cookbooks.

It is a series of four I believe - only option is to iPlayer it if you can sort out a proxy, or wait for the inevitable repeat. I have just been given the book - looks really good!

Cabrales? :? :? :? I didn't see the programme, but this could fit the bill.

Yes it was Cabrales. Everyone should try it but it is very strong and astringent - not everyone will like it.

If you can, try and get a piece that doesn't look too mature. You can buy "Crema de Cabrales" which comes in small tubs in the supermarket and is much milder.

I love most blue cheeses but Cabrales is a bit of a challenge!

Very much enjoyed Rick Stein's offerings on TV and the same goes for Thomasina "Tommi Miers" as she now seems to want to be known.
Excellent TV.

Whatever you do, don't drink a dry white with it - you will really regret it!

Yes a sweet wine would be OK and some of the Malaga sweet wines are really good. Pedro Ximenez (often referred to as PX) is a grape variety and it can make dry wines as well as sweet wines but the sweet ones are the most common. You should find one for around €5.

It's not a sweet red - it's actually a sweet white - more a brown really.

Does anyone know where the kitchen is that he is cooking in?

The view of the house looks like it is down the Guadalhorce valley towards Alhaurin el Grande

It was said to be at the back of Malaga so you are probably right.

His restaurant at Padstow seems to get good reviews. He also has a deli there too...selling all his products of course. No stone has been left unturned, the DVD, Book, music from the series. A proper little jamie oliver/carluccio etc. You can even stay in a crummy room at his place for around £300 per night. Appeals to the Chelsea set. No doubt he will be doing something sensationally messy to grip the viewers...or to stop them nodding off :lolno:

Well done Trigger - great photo. So, I think judging by the angle that it must be further west on the other side of the valley at about the level of Alora or slightly further North!
Cheers
