Does anyone know if there is a spice or paste called harissa, if yes where can it be bought and the Spanish name for same?

Yes I have a jar in the fridge, funnily enough it's called Harissa, got it from the big Eroski at El Ingenio although I have seen it in other supermarkets.

Depends where you are located.

It's quite common as it is a Moroccan spice mix.

It comes as a powder or paste, the paste in jars or tubes.

Most decent hypermarkets should stock it along with Ras al Hanout which is another common Moroccan spice mix.

Its a great idea to ask for the information here. Well Moroccan spice mix is a very common ingredient which is easily available in the grocery stores. :)

I doubt if you will find it in Mercadona but they sell all the ingredients and it's easy to make. Just mash up some dried chili peppers (guindillas), ground cumin (comino molido), garlic, salt and olive oil in a pestle & mortar till you get a paste, and keep it in a jar in the fridge.

Beware, treat it with caution and don't rub your eyes after handling the chilis!
