Steak
Hi folks,
I love my steak I do. I wanted to ask for suggestions of where to buy it in the Frigiliana and Nerja area?
Cheers n beers.

Re: Steak
Amazing, thanks. I was thinking more supermarkets as the butchers always seem to be closed when I'm shopping (even following their opening times) and don't have any parking near by.
Re: Steak
Mercadonna usually have Fillet, Sirloin and Rump pre-packed. Whole Fillet frozen for about 22 - 25 € .
Would need a few guests to shift a frozen fillet once defrosted
Supersol usually have all three varieties on the Butcher's counter.

Re: Steak
yeah Supersol is my go to at the moment for the over the counter stuff. Not too keen on Mercadona's pre-packed stuff - or Lidl's. Cheers

Re: Steak
We have had Argentine steak from Alcampo. It is often sold as a whole fillet or Entrecôte, vacuum packed, with a sell by date up to two months ahead.
They also do Potro steak if you want it.

Never heard of Alcampo, but then again I am new off the boat - I'll check it out. Cheers!

Re: Steak
I also like my steak but as it can be expensive it is usually a treat apart from the fact that we are all being told that we should only eat yogurt and fruit.
I would be interested to know price per Kg which is really for to compare between UK and wherever.
As I am only going for week or so at a time I sometimes buy steak in Tesco on my out journey and this is what use, I have some Spanish Steak in the freezer but did not get to use yet probably next time....
regards me....

Re: Steak
I'll second Gavilan's recommendation; if we are over for a fortnight we will eat dinner at least once at Venta el Curro.gavilan wrote:May or may not be of interest but ... I am told there is very good steak served at Venta el Curro just outside Archez which is not a million kms from you. They have a web site.
When our son visits, he eats dinner there twice a week.
Sandra and Jose will also sell you raw steak, packed in plastic boxes to take away at about €3.50 less than the menu price - our son enjoyed his two steaks when we brought them back to the UK for him earlier this year.
Looking forward to our next visit around Easter time.
Re: Steak
The best steaks we've had are from Mercadona - prepacked but aged and I think about 32€ a kilo .... we only have them for a special treat! I think they call it vacuno solomillo. They do less expensive ones - the entrecot is matured for 14 days and is 16.90€ a kilo (not under Hacendado label but Martinez Loriente 'specialists in meat' ..... I have these in the freezer for Easter).
Re: Steak
If you cannot find a good local supplier and you appreciate a really good steak then look at mail order from these guys -> http://www.trasacar.es/ingles/index.html who have an online shop at -> http://tiendagourmettrasacar.com
They supply a restaurant that I have an interest in, and the quality is superb. Generally their beef is sourced from Germany and has a good level of marbling.
More pricey than usual but great as a treat.
Regards,
Mike

Re: Steak
You guys sound you know your way around your meat so I'm looking for help identifying local cuts of beef as have had a few disasters on the BBQ already.
Is filete de ternera what we would call topside? I tried some from Supersol (Nerja) it was great in stew/curry etc but I sliced it for the BBQ and it was inedibly tough.
I also bought lomo of anojo ternera there which looked like our sirloin (porterhouse) – is that correct?
If so what is solomillo? I thought it was sirloin but it's much more expensive than the ‘lomo’ I bought. Is it different somehow? maybe aged? entrecote is the same as sirloin (US) or porterhouse (Aus) isn't it?
I also bought something that was ternera and was sliced very thin. It was good/tender but I forgot to keep the label. It looked like a round or maybe rump. Anyone know the translation for those cuts?
By the way I’m Aussie so our names may not be the same as the UK either.
