Are fresh figs available mid September to mid October?
Many thanks.

I'm sure there have been figs on my tree well in to October but I already have an abundance of them so maybe the season is early this year.

The shops seem to be full of them both green and black. Friends of ours have a tree and I am sure they brought some to us in September.

Our fig tree looks about ready to harvest, but we won't as neither of us like them. If OH had her way we would cut it down because it smells of cats pee. Not nice when sitting outside.

I have to admit that, before moving to Spain, my only experience of figs was those disgusting dried things that everyone had to have in boxes at Christmas. The fig tree at the bottom of my plot was a revelation. All the lovely, succulent, juicy green figs we could eat throughout most of August, September and October. Absolute heaven.

I'm the opposite, Beachcomber. I used to look forward to the boxes of figs my parents would buy at Christmas. Shame I'm not keen on the fresh ones now, having a plentiful supply every year from our one tree.

Hay lads sure your memory isn't playing tricks......" boxes of figs my parents would buy at Christmas"

I always thought they were boxes of Dates with a stick.........

Back on topic........
One way to preserve them..........cut into quarters without cutting through, open out into a star and put on an open wire mesh in the sun, great to chew on in the winter months.

Saw some out on my ride in the villages at the weekend.

The black figs normally come later in the season..September - October, even better than the green ones for taste .
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Green figs certainly out around here.
We always take the dog for a walk before breakfast, pick half dozen figs, pick some of our grapes, some fresh pineapple and fresh tangerines, the juice of freshly squeezed oranges and breakfast sorted.

Enrique. Definitely figs at Christmas. Had dates as well and they were even better.

Still partial to fig rolls!

Our fig tree is all finished fruiting now- ours start with the Breva figs, a bumper harvest this year and then go on to the normal figs- only small and not up to much. The dogs love them, our Labrador pulls them off the tree.

Our tree produces loads of brevas and the later crop of figs but they never develop into edible fruit. They are completely dried out inside and we haven't had an edible fruit in 4 summers. The tree is irrigated and is quite mature ..... what are we doing wrong? I love fresh figs and haven't had any unless I buy them from the supermarket.
