No more brown avocados.

Postby luckyjim » Mon Oct 27, 2014 10:19 am

Great tip I learnt today which I thought I would share with you. When left with half avocado place in a plastic container, skin side down, on a bed of chunks of red onion. It really works.

There is always one who tries to diss a perfectly good posting.

Agreed - a pointless post.

You can still use the onions after you have eaten the Avocado.

Will the avocado not take the flavor of the red onion? Why specifically a red onion?

Don't know how it works but it does, something to do with some property held by the onion. Certainly, the onion can be used for a multitude of other dishes if you are a little bit innovative Quebin!

So you don't know why specifically a red onion, and you don't know if the avocado takes any flavor from the onion.

OK I have looked into this and apparently the gasses released from the red onion(those that make your eyes water) prevent oxidization. Make sure the onion only comes into contact with the skin of the avocado.

Why would anyone save half an advocado  they almost give them away in Spain.

I frequently can only eat half an avocado and keep the rest for later in the day or the next day. I use lemon juice and cling film, seems to work for me. I am not an onion fan especially raw ones.

I'm with Katy on this one:
Why would anyone save half an advocado
This argument is akin to the "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?" syndrome.

Why bother joining in the conversation with such a disinterested view. I thought the point of this forum was to impart ideas and share knowledge with other people, not knocking things.

You always get a few worthless comments by the usual suspects on here. They seem to be above the rules and those who mention them are usually the ones who get the flak.

Just ignore them - we always get a few that can't manage to say anything constructive so just post irrelevancies.

Don't be silly. Have you all had a sense of humour bypass.

It's a forum with a mix of people. We all have opinions of what is a worthless comment. I get the same people stalking me almost everytime I have an opinion different to them. I can't see that advising to throw away half an advocado is breaking any rules.

It's not, but I don't think it was your post that was upsetting the OP.

I think this thread has run its course - we now all know how to stop an Avocado going brown which some people might find useful - I did. Others may just throw their Avocado halves away - fine. There really doesn't seem much more to be said.

That's about it really.
