Horseradish sauce?
Horseradish sauce?
I have been looking for horseradish sauce in the village; asking for salsa de rábano picante is met with blank looks. Is there another common name for it?
Brian.
Re: Horseradish sauce?
Is it something the Spanish eat? I've not seen it other than Coleman's in the English shops.
Re: Horseradish sauce?
Perhaps not but I want some if it is available. There is a translation for it which made me suspect it is known.
Brian.
Re: Horseradish sauce?
Must be able to get it fresh somewhere, the chef in the Danish place on the Paseo grates it onto his open beef sarnies. I'll ask him tomorrow if I see him, he is a Wednesday shopper in mucky's

I can usually get it in Carrefour at the German section. In my experience the Spanish don't usually like hot spicy sauces, although that might be different down there.

Make your own :
Mayo, sour cream, white pepper and grated horseradish, lasts for ages in an airtight container !

And where would you expect to buy fresh horseradish? I have looked but never seen it in Spain.

You must be able to get it somewhere, Brian the chef at La Pataleta in El Morche, uses it grated onto his Roast Beef open sandwiches. I keep meaning to,but always forget, to ask when I see him in Mucky Donna.

Sid a little greengrocer's near us (in spain) has it when in season. I'll pick some up next week if you want some and if they have it in. British looking orange turnips too, we were surprised.El Cid wrote:And where would you expect to buy fresh horseradish? I have looked but never seen it in Spain.

That would be good. There's nothing quite like the fresh stuff. I guess you could always freeze it and grate it from frozen.
