Re: Japanese souffle pancakes
No, but I will stick with the conventional English pancake.
You can’t cover them with sugar and lemon juice and roll them up!
If you are going to all the trouble to make them I would rather cook a proper soufflé.

No, never heard of them before. Google suggests they are nice.
Where are they available in Andalucia?

I've never seen them for sale, my mate just back from Tokyo is raving about them, I've googled the recipe's and found a few, I was just wondering if anyone else had tried them !
I will attempt to make them over the weekend, they do look good

I have a 1986 cookery book with a recipe for what is described as a French sweet soufflé omelet which looks very similar, it just needs flour to make it into a batter mix it seems. Looking at recipes for the Japanese ones they look quite tricky to get right .... look tasty though!

I asked my daughter in law ( shes Japanese) about them and she is goiing to send the recipe and in return i will post it on here. Perhaps it may not differ too much from the recipies Al has googled..
Re: Japanese souffle pancakes
Absolutely. I have never eaten anything good out of Japan. Have a friend who travels and works in Japan and have tasted various concoctions. Last week it was a sort of tapa of kingfish with a brilliant green japanese paste out of a tube dotted on top...just about eatableEl Cid wrote:No, but I will stick with the conventional English pancake.

I used to own a Sushi bar, Wasabi (a type of horseradish) from a tube is cr@p, you need to mix it yourself.
I have never sold kingfish as Sushi, fresh raw salmon is the norm on a small eggshaped ball of rice, then you dip it in Japanese soy.
Sushi is not necessarily just fish, in fact a Japanes chef I know tells me that you can serve just about anything as sushi as long as you use the correct main ingredients, rice and nori.
It seems you've been sold a bum steer kate !!

I love tuna sashimi - sometimes I buy raw tuna & dip it into soy sauce, but not as good as the real thing !

Don't visit her again until she knows what she's doing
