Another fish

Postby fearfulfred » Fri May 19, 2006 8:35 am

Hi all

Had some fish last night that was very good. Just wondering what we ate. I have tried the www.freetranslation.com site to come up with "Back of dangerous". The label was Lomo de Marrajo. I marinated as I would a shark steak and it was lovely. Would be a help to know exactly what it was to put in a food database that I use.

find a source for fresh ginger
All the supermarkets down on this part of the coast sell fresh ginger.

Thanks Alan

Only place I tried down there was Carrefour (exit 238 i think) in Malaga and didn't see it but will go back and look at a few other places.

Thats correct - its actually a Porbeagle shark.

My usual reference book for fish is written by Alan Davidson - there is one for Mediterranean fish and one for the North Atlantic.

It has the advantage is that it lists all the normally known species but also gives the common names in most languages. According to him it is Marracho in Portugese and Cailon in Spanish.

if you mean root ginger - there is a little greengrocers right beside the 'new' mercadona in velez malaga - near the fountain - sells fresh root ginger - buy more than you need and plant a bit so to grow your own!

silver - all I did was plant a root in a medium size plant pot - mixed soil with compost as our soil is very poor - water well in summer - doesnt llike full sun - leaves are a fascinating shape - grows about 18inches tall - dies down in autumn - if you want to cook with it - dig a root up, cut off what you want, dust cut end with sand and replant ... good luck
