One that is very popular with expats and locals in Alhaurin is Wilsons Extra Strong Cheddar and you can get it at most petrol stations as well as the supermarkets.

We buy Cheddar cheese from the local Mercadona but would love to find a Spanish cheese with a similar medium/strong taste and texture to Cheddar. A lot of Spanish cheeses look so tempting (& others, yuk) but it would be great if somebody could suggest similar to save going through the lot until you eventually find one.
Since I gave up hope I feel much better!

It's nothing like cheddar but my favourite cheese are Appenzeller and Manchego (the one with the black wax seal :)

No Spanish cheese can compare in texture and flavour to a good Cheddar.

Give a good English Cheddar to a Spaniard and he will be your friend for life!

Sid

ps. I mean good Cheddar - not the rubbish you can buy in Spain.

You are right, the cheddar in the supermarkets here doesn't taste of anything. Once had a jar of stilton from UK and 2 spanish friends ate the lot (my husband will never forget it. or should I say forgive) If friends come over I ask them to bring different cheeses. Like the really mature manchego but wow the price
