Special needs children inland

Hi all.
Havn't been on here for a while, hope Xmas etc was good for you all......

Anyway, down to business....

A freind of mine +family want to move out here, but they have a son with special needs; can anyone tell me what is available here i.e education, is there a disability living allowance scheme etc???

Any comments would be welcomed.

Hi Izzie there are lots of schools that specialise in children with special needs along with educating mainstream children too but not all schools do this so your friend would probably have to live near a school that does.

Re the benefits I imagine you woud only be entitled to Spanish benefits if you had paid into the Spanish tax and social security system for a certain length of time (2 years is familiar) and as far as I know there is no DLA equivalent, however the care component of DLA is exportable (not the mobility component) depending on the length of award. Get your friend to check this with the DWP as it may only be for life awards and I doubt if a child would have been awarded it for life as needs may change (I used to work for DLA).
