Home Teaching

Postby HKM » Mon Jan 26, 2009 2:22 pm

Hi

Just wondering if anyone teaches their children at home?

If so how do you and they find it?

Any info would be appreciated...

I didn't think that it was a legal option in Spain.

Not much help, but I knew someone a few years ago who was home-schooling all 6 of his children. I assume it was legal, but bearing in mind he worked for a criminal estate agent, maybe it wasn't! I assume, HKM, you haven't solved the bullying problem and are thinking of taking your son out of school? Hope you manage to sort things, it must be a real worry.

You can get a letter/form from your childs school to say you are teaching your child at home or words to that effect. You have to sign it and send it back to the school. This is certainly the case with the secondary schools. It also says that the Junta de A. may check up on you.

Yes the problem is continuing...

The school are totally ignoring the issues, no response from the Junta yet...

He will move to a different teacher/peers in September so we are trying to hang in until then..

A Spanish friend told me the only way the Junta will take notice is if I take him out of school..

It's not just the bullying, the teacher is useless.. I could go on all day...

We do homeschooling all year in English ( although we do also use the local school for the language immersion for the few months we are in Spain). My child loves it and there are many wonderful online schools as well. She even takes her piano lessons online in Spain with a teacher in Chicago! Right now she is taking a wonderful course with kids from around the world with John Hopkin's Univ CTY program.

I don't know much about the British system, but I have friends that have been home educating from the start and love it ( and do it when they are in Spain):

Good luck!
