To the Mum's out there Help!!

Postby HKM » Fri Apr 09, 2010 8:00 am

If anyone knows of a Infacol and gripewater substitute I can buy here in Spain? When asking at the chemist they have no idea.. We have the Manzanilla drink that they gave us but it's doesn't work like the infacol.. And my supplies are running low.. Otherwise I presume they will sell this kind of stuff at Gibraltar, a long way to go but worth it..

You can buy Infacol on Ebay if all else fails. There is some for sale there now.

Make your own. Found this while searching ...
Each gripe water manufacturer has it's own gripe water formula. Gripe water formulas often contain one or more of these ingredients.

* Anise to aid digestion
* Angelica to soothe upset stomach
* Caraway to relieve flatulence and indigestion
* Cardamom to relieves flatulence and indigestion
* Catnip to support digestion and relieve upset stomach
* Chamomile to settle the stomach
* Cinnamon bark to aid digestion and relieve flatulence and vomiting
* Dill to dispels flatulence, stimulate appetite and settle stomach
* Fennel for stomach upset, hiccups, gas
* Ginger to ease nausea and other digestive problems
* Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to decrease stomach acidity
Possibly best to cut out the bicarb.

You might elicit a better response if you posted on the right forum, ie, parents in Andalucia, just trying to be helpful !

My eldest son suffered terribly with colic and the only thing that helped was fennel & dill seeds (or anis) boiled in water for a few minutes, then strained and cooled and given between feeds. This recipe was given to me by an Indian Pharmacist friend who told me not to bother with the chemical colic preparations and I never had to. He loved his 'green water', the colic went in a couple of days and he never had any gastric problems either. I still make it for them if they have an upset tummy and it works every time. There is a also a website called mumsinspain dot com if you want to join there.
