Water Biths etc

Postby DazKem » Thu Oct 13, 2005 2:42 pm

Hi all

Firstly....we are waiting for our house to sell and then we will be moving to Benalmadena, and we have just found out that we are expecting another little one, it will be our second.

So to the question, we had our first child at home in a birthing pool and would very much to have the same experience, is this possible in Spain, or are there centers / hospitals where we could have a water birth if we cant have one at home ??

thanks

Daz

Anything's possible if you pay enough money! I may be wrong (in fact I'd love to be wrong) but I don't think this option will be available to you within the state health system, as in the UK. Childbirth TENDS to be a much more clinical affair here, with few of the choices we have come to expect back home (pain relief, positioning during labour, birth partners, etc).

I imagine there are private centres in Andalucia, since I am aware of a couple in other regions with English-speaking staff and more natural/alternative childbirth options.

Please let us know how you get on, i.e. if you find such a centre in Andalucia.

Best of luck...and congratulations of course.

Hi again,

The following are organisations that might be able to help you locate somewhere in Andalucia:

Asociación "Nacer en Casa" (Homebirth Association)
Peñalara, 17 Urb. Los Manzanos
28600 Navalcarnero ( Madrid)
Tel. 91.8110004
e.mail : [email protected]
www.nacerencasa.org

Avda de Vergel, 11
03778 Beniarbeig (Alicante)
Tel: 966476260
E-mail : [email protected]
www.acuario.org

La Plataforma pro Derechos del Nacimiento
c/Santapau, 59 - 1°
08016 Barcelona
Tf. 93-340 70 43
E-mail: [email protected]
www.pangea.org/pdn

The Acuario group have an english-speaking midwife (not sure if she's British/American, etc) and she might be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck,

Kelly
