Swimming in Lake Viñuela (again) - is it allowed?

Postby johnr » Sat Sep 13, 2014 12:41 am

Hi,

I see there was a discussion on this a few years ago but I can't find a current answer. I know there are still some No Swimming signs up, but a few web sites (inc. Wikipedia - for what that is worth) say swimming is allowed.

Does anyone know for sure whether it is allowed and whether the water is safe?

There was a triathlon here the other week and the swimming element was in the lake - so I'm guessing it's safe. But that doesn't really answer the question of whether it is allowed or not, they may have had special permission?

Thanks
John

Someone drowned there a couple of years ago so personally I would give it a. Is. I've never seen anyone swimming in it, but suggest you ask at vinuela town hall for definitive answer.

Thanks Alison, I think I'll have to do that.

Sorry to hear someone drowned, but that isn't a reason not to swim in it. Sadly people drown in all bodies of water for a variety of reasons.

As we get some of our drinking water from there, I hope everyone has to have a certificate saying they are not incontinent!
There has been a kayak/yacht school there for the summer, so unless they have strapped in their clients, I assume a few have had at least an accidental swim!

Ha, I suspect the amount of 'pollution' given the size of the lake would be negligible!

Yes, I noticed the yachts.
