Yes, absolutely spot on! But I wonder....were things simpler, or were we just younger and had more energy and enthusiasm to tackle these things that are sent to try us?

I'm raising this topic again as a friend has recently had a problem as a dependent of her husband.

Everything went OK until she had to have an operation. At that point she was told that she would have to register in her own right (she is now a pensioner) before they would give a date for her op. She is in the process of doing this. She has had no problem with doctor's appointments, specialist's appointments or prescriptions in the past.

Has anyone, who holds a card as a dependant, had an operation recently?

Interesting. Do you suppose that it's because someone has realised that, as a pensioner, Spain can claim from the UK for her healthcare, and now that she needs an operation, they want to make the UK foot the bill?

They are footing the bill anyway, as the UK is paying €3500 a year for her health coverage. There is no difference between a main claimant and a dependant as far as where the money comes from. It looks like a weird bureaucratic error to me.

An old thread but a search brought me here. About a month ago my wife's digital cert failed to log me in to get her an appointment at the doctors. I tried to log in manually and again I got a message that data was incorrect. However, there was no problem going to the health centre and getting the receptionist to give an appointment (using my wife's health card in her machine). She was seen by the doctor, was given a prescription which was dispensed using her card at the pharmacy so things were working.

In an effort to regularise the situation the receptionist at the health centre gave us the tarjeta sanitaria application form to fill in and we were told to cite 'Error de datos impresos' for the application. This was handed in about two weeks ago.

This morning we went to get results of a blood test for my wife but the doc couldn't access her records. She sent us to the receptionist who put the health card into the machine to check the data and all she could see was my wife's name and address, NIE and a message 'PASIVO (Nececita acreditation INSS)'.

I am 73 and my wife is 63 so, reading some of the posts above, I guess it is something to do with her status as an 'underage' spouse of a pensioner. We have had our health cards for nearly seven years (gained when I was a pensioner) and have had no previous glitches. My card is working OK in all respects.

We will have to go to the INSS office so, to perhaps save us time, could any others who have had to go through the process recently let me know which docs will be required. Will I need anything new from Newcastle?

Any additional advice would be appreciated.
Brian.

You are a pensioner - OK. Your wife is your dependant - irrespective of her age, pensionable status, health status. As your dependant your wife is entitled to health care.
You should need to take with you your S1 to prove your status as UK pensioner (or are you also a spanish pensioner?), and your marriage certificate (shouldn't need official translation) to prove that she is your wife, and both your passports to show that each of you is who you say. Also your NIE little green cards to show your status in Spain as EU citizens. Also take with you the Tarjetas Sanitarias that your currently each have. (Note that as pensioner you have full cover in all of Spain, not just Andalucia - some cards show this but others don't ...mine does but OHs doesn't! ... but they are valid nationally.)
When your wife turns 65, then she can apply for her spanish pension in her own right, and a new tarjeta sanitaria too!
Remember to go online to get your Cita Previa appointment - INSS will not normally see you without the prior appointment!

I am wondering what caused the sudden glitch. The documents you mention, apart from the passports, are the ones I took to them seven years ago. I hope I can find that S1... Thanks for the heads up about an appointment, I'll take a look. I recall the first time we did this we walked in and took a numbered ticket at the door.

We have an appointment for Thursday morning. (You saved me time there, Gasman, thanks). Both copies of S1 were retained by INSS last time. Silly me didn't keep a copy. I do have the S1 accompanying letter from Newcastle but I doubt that will be much use. More importantly, I have the signed and stamped 'Documento Acreditativo del Derecho a la Asistencia Sanitaria (Normativa International)' which acknowledges me as the pensioner and lists my wife as 'Beneficiaria del Titular del que Deriva el Derecho.' I have all the other usual paperwork and copies. Wish us luck.

Re"Note that as pensioner you have full cover in all of Spain, not just Andalucia "
Although you have cover the computerised prescription system is only for Andalucia, so check your stock if travelling around.
In Murcia the doctor prints you off a sheet of paper listing your meds, and you simply take this to the farmacia and tell them what you need. We do have tarjetas for Murcia but these are just a (poor) firm of identification.

Earlier today I had emailed our local INSS office to ask them how to proceed. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a helpful reply just now:

Buenas tardes ,

Brian.

That's what I thought too. However, I will still take everything else mentioned here including a Padrón if I can get them in time. I am wondering if the DOCUEMNTO QUE LO ACREDITE they mention is the 'Documento Acreditativo del Derecho a la Asistencia Sanitaria' which I also have.

We attended the brand, spanking new INSS office in Sanlúcar la Mayor this morning.

Just a tip before I go on. If you get an appointment for 9 am, the world and his wife get that time too so go to the entrance early and queue. Inside there are machines to enter your NIE and obtain a ticket. Then watch the screens for your number to come up.

We were fortunate to get a lady who was very pleasant and seemed to know her job.

First off I gave her my wife's tarjeta sanitaria and the Documento Acreditativo del Derecho a la Asistencia Sanitaria which we were given 7 years ago. She entered the details from that but could see no reason for the problem we were having so she took copies of:
Both passports
My wife's padrón
Marriage certificate
Both NIEs (the newer green A4 residence registration, not the earlier white A4 - we offered both)
Documento Acreditativo del Derecho a la Asistencia Sanitaria
Both tarjeta sanitarias

The lady then issued us a new Documento Acreditativo del Derecho a la Asistencia Sanitaria and we have just taken that to our health centre who will send it off to another office together with a copy of my wife's NIE and tarjeta sanitaria for 'activation'.

So we must wait now, with fingers crossed, for the activation.

Fingers crossed. I've no idea how long 'activation will take...'
