Prevision Medica forms
Hi
Looking at setting up private healthcare for my wife and I and have been quite impressed with Prevision Medica's - Salut policy which is currently on some sort of offer.
My only problem is there doesn't seem to be any English version of the application forms and not sure my Spanish is yet up to medical forms. Does anyone know if English versions are available on line anywhere?
We would be interested in anyone's experience with them too. We will be living in the Alcaucin area.
Thanks in advance
Richard & Lesley

Re: Prevision Medica forms
My husband and I have had insurance with Prevision Medica for almost 8 years and have always been completely happy with their service. Unlike many other companies they do not increase their premiums when a policy holder reaches the age of 65. Any tests or treatment we have needed has always been authorised immediately, with no quibbles.
I have not seen their application form available in English, although they did send me a policy document in English. If you email Beatriz Almaden at Prevision Medica (she speaks fluent English) at [email protected], she will be able to tell you if they do have an English version.

"Free at last". Many thanks. We have actually been speaking with Beatriz. Hopefully we can sort things pretty quickly.
May I ask if you just register with a doctor once signed up? They mentioned something about vouchers? I notice you are in Velez Malaga so not far from where we are headed.

No you don't register with a doctor you use any of the doctors/ clinics listed in their medical directory.
Every time you see a doctor/ nurse you have to present a voucher, which last time I bought some where €2 each.
You do not have to present a voucher if the doctors appointment/ procedure has been pre authorised by Provision Medica.
Authorisation can be done by email. Usually done within 24 hours.
Cheers

Yes, that's right, we are in Vélez. With private medical insurance, you don't register with a doctor as such. You consult their "cuadro medico" (directory of clinics, hospitals and specialists which you are authorised to use) then just make an appointment at whichever is most convenient for you. You get a number of vouchers (they call them cheques de asistencia) each year with your policy (we get 5 each per year, although some years we don't need any and if not used in one year you just carry on using them until they run out). I see Gerry says he paid €2 for his, but we have always been issued with them at no extra charge. I think that could be because we took out the policy direct with the company rather than through a broker. For a GP or specialist appointment, you just sign and hand over one of the cheques in payment and the bill goes to Prevision Medica. If any tests or further treatment is prescribed for you, the doctor writes you a prescription and you need to send that to the company (can be scanned and emailed) to be authorised, telling them which clinic you want to go to for the treatment. They send it back to you (normally within hours) with their authorisation stamp on it and you can then make the appointment for the tests or treatment. When you get there you hand over the authorised prescription to the clinic and again they bill Prevision Medica direct, so you don't need to use one of your cheques for that.PavAmber wrote:"Free at last". It is a bit strange in the private system because you become the custodian of your medical records, they give you all the test results and copies of x.rays, ultrasound and mammograms etc and you need to take the most recent ones with you when you go for your next appointment. If a doctor says they want to see you again in six months, say, it is up to you to make the appointment at the appropriate time, you will not be called back by them.
We tend to go to Clinica Rincon in Torre del Mar for our primary care needs as they offer a wide range of services there, although GP services are also available at the Centro Medico del Carmen in Vélez-Málaga. I don't know if there are any clinics in their approved directly any closer to Alcaucín.
Be aware that as with all private health insurance policies there are waiting periods after you first take out the policy until you are actually covered for most kinds of treatment - apart from GP visits and emergency treatment which is covered immediately. The periods are set out in the policy document, ranging from 3 months for some things up to 12 months for antenatal care and childbirth.

5 free vouchers a year are going to last me long.Free at Last wrote:..we get 5 each per year, although some years we don't need any and if not used in one year you just carry on using them until they run out). Often use more than that in a month.
I usually buy 20 at a time which reminds me that I need to get some more, down to my last 5 vouchers.
Cheers

Recently, they have sent some authorisations directly to Clinica Rincon. You just turn up and get the treatment.
We have been with them for years and are very satisfied. Sadly, they only operate to any extent in Malga province. Apparently Clinicas Rincon are opening a clinic soon in Almunecar which will be really useful for us.

Also, on occasions, Clinica Rincon have faxed the paperwork direct and received the authorisation directly. On a recent occasion whilst my wife waited a short time.

Blimey, Gerry, you are certainly getting your money's worth out of your policy! We still have 4 left which were issued in 2014.gerryh wrote:5 free vouchers a year are going to last me long.Free at Last wrote:..we get 5 each per year, although some years we don't need any and if not used in one year you just carry on using them until they run out). Don't you have regular blood tests?
I have them twice a year so the general doctor can detect problems before they happen.
My wife also has them plus a mammogram, visit to the gynaecologist etc so she gets through a few a year without seeing anybody for an illness.
As I am paying them for a service I might as well use the service.
Cheers

Re: Prevision Medica forms
I have a blood test whenever I go for a Well Woman type check which includes a mammogram and ultrasound as well. I don't need to use a cheque for the blood test or other tests though, only for the initial consultation with the gynaecologist. I only need to go every two years now although I did go more frequently some years earlier when a problem was detected. Apart from that I've seen a cardiologist 3 times and he only wants to see me every 9 months at the moment. I haven't needed to see a GP for several years and my husband hasn't either, he doesn't have any ongoing conditions and doesn't take any medication. I see my state GP now for repeat prescriptions of the medication the private cardiologist originally prescribed for me, so I get them at the 10% subsidised rate. It's also quicker and easier for me to see the state GP as the health centre is only a couple of minutes' walk from home. I always seem to have to wait for ages when I turn up for any kind of appointment at Clinica Rincon, whereas at the Health Centre they keep to time very well with their appointments.

Has anyone used their dental cover?

Re: Prevision Medica forms
The dental cover is a waste of money. It just gives you "discounts" on dentists' regular prices. Ours took a look at the post-discount prices and said that she charges less than that for uninsured patients.
