Spain were dissapointing tonight...same old old..intent on fielding names instead of whats best for the team..

Very bad refereeing last night, there is no way that was a deliberate handball, the referee effectively gave the game to Russia

Re: World Cup 2018
We didn't think it was a penalty either but some of the commentator panel did...having said that Spain might have had possession of the ball in their games but it would help if they got a move on...there isn't the speed in the players that there was when they last won the title, the only time they seem to speed up and play like they want to win is when they are losing..When they are a goal ahead they take it too much for granted and sit back which always seems to cost them in the long run...Hubby went out down the country lane during the penalties, he couldn't bear to watch and true to form they have never been renowned for winning penalty shoot outs...Still it's a shame they are out...Now it's pointing towards a big team and underdog team final..

Presumably he deliberately put his arms in the air so that would constitute a hand ball as it struck his deliberately placed arm. A handball is not just about the hand, anywhere from the tip of your fingers to your shoulder is classed as a handball.Manchesteral wrote:Very bad refereeing last night, there is no way that was a deliberate handball, the referee effectively gave the game to Russia

There were other factors too. If you watch it, the direction of his hand movement made it hand to ball. The arm was in an unnatural position and very importantly, Dzyuba's header was on target Definite handball. Even Pique's reaction was odd. He seemed to be saying it hit his head when he must have known it had hit his arm.
If that had happened at the other end, Spain would have been disappointed if it wasn't given

Most enjoyable game tonight watching Japan and Belgium...felt sorry for Japan, they did everything Spain didn't do...they ran and ran and played their hearts out...also good to see a clean game, something that's been sadly lacking in this tournament...Neymar was at it again this afternoon with his antics, rolling around like an amateur...

A real pity that football didn’t come home but congratulations to England in this World cup. This will be a world cup that will be fondly remembered.

Yes, a real pity England didn't get to the final. Despite all the Brexit mayhem the football lifted the country and i have thoroughly enjoyed watching the tournament.. After Sunday's final it will be over and many people i know have said several times they are going to miss the footie..
Re: World Cup 2018
fortunately the Tour de France has arrived just in time with British interest to the fore with Geraint Thomas, Chris Froome and Dan Martin all doing well. ITV has brilliant live and highlights coverage
Re: World Cup 2018
But nothing on the BBC. Only bloody football that is not coming home!
Re: World Cup 2018
So if the two football teams ran round and round the pitch in formation with one guy in front wearing a yellow jersey, that would be more interesting would it? #justsaying
Re: World Cup 2018
We watch the football but also like the cycling but cannot get it live as we don't get ITV4 on the 907 satellite, although it has been on Spanish TV in the past. We are big fans and always go to see the Vuelta when it passes by ..... due along the coast here next month! We were thrown what we think was Chris Froome's lunch bag last time!!
A chance of a third place medal today for England .... hope they play better than they did the other night. They seemed to have lost the plot after half time.

Thanks Enrique!

Of course, the Tour is shown on spanish terrestrial telly, Teledeporte, but with spanish commentary - also on Eurosport with option of UK commentary if you can get access to that?
Just glad the football is over at last - nice that our old friends France won again after 20 years with little Didier in charge. What a hoot of a final closing ceremony though - how could they only bring out one umbrella in such a situation, and we have all heard about gender equality, but to have Putin stand under it while Mrs Croatia was getting drenched, posh hairdo an all, was a shocker! Still Mr Macron certainly enjoyed himself, and really, I think she - Mrs Croatia - did too! Not sure about the Qatar hostesses though - not what they signed up for, I am sure - though they did manage to keep their smiles glued on.
