Hi.

Can anyone tell me anything about the topography and fishing in Lake Vinuela.

Thanks.

Now I am no fisherman, but there looks to be just about enough water in there to support 2 frogs and a goldfish..........

Thanks.
I hope to be there in May. There should be more water but it does not look as if it carries a lot of stock.

I think this is where fishing for food changed into the sport of throwing them back.

The locals don't even eat them!

With all the illegal building above the lake, and the less-than-adequate sewerage installed, I would not want to eat anything out of there - and I only drink bottled water as I have never been keen on secondhand sauerkraut or bavarian urine.

Royston, I've never fished it but I'm told that there are quite a few bream and carp in there. You often see large shoals rising near the dam, though they're probably trying to escape from the run-offs that peteroldracer mentioned!

keddyboy wrote:If you are in Belamadena then the closest would be a small lake up our way in Alhaurin el Grande. As its a day ticket water, no need for LICENCE. It holds a good head of carp up to about 9kg and good golden orfe. If you want directions give me a pm or ask on air and I will post the directions. The lake is about 1 acre appx 3.5 feet deep, lilly pads and about 30 seconds from safe car parking.

Friends of mine have been fishing in Isnajar most of the year and always have plenty of catches, carp mainly.
They tell me that it takes longer to get down to the waters edge due to the shortage of water but they prefer that lake.

Freecatsrus - interesting that you say that, a friend lives in that area and states that the water is so polluted by chemical run-off from the olive groves that the fish should not be eaten. However, there are still groups of local kids trying to sell off their catches to the "local" foreigners.

Now he tells me, we spent a day swimming in that lake and having a good time.
If we start glowing in the dark like Peckham Spring water would it be wise to see the quack??????
Bye the way they never bring any fish home wherever they go.

Thanks everyone. I haven't been to that area before and in my ignorance I was hoping that there may have been a few trout about.
It sounds as if the kids should stick to the pool or the sea.
Thanks again.

There are two or three rivers that I fish for brown trout in Sierra de Segura, Jaen - most of the rivers require barbless hooks and some are limited to fly only. It's definately not a day trip from anywhere but does offer some stunning scenery, crystal clear waters and sly trout.

Lake Vinuela is a great fishing lake having fished it on numerous occassions. Masssive bream shoals, carp to 15kg plus and sturgeon up to about 10kg. The fact that the lake is allegedly being poluted by effluent comming in from the top end, fish down by the water tower or below the picnic/barbecue area. Best bait, sweetcorn/luncheon meat, fish flavoured boilies and lob worms for the bream.
