Recommendations for La Herradura?
Recommendations for La Herradura?
My wife and I are looking forward to our first Christmas in Andalucia. Living in La Herradura and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for Christmas day and also New Years Eve. We were thinking of the Mirador, Cerro Gordo but thought beachside might be a better bet. Chambao de Joaquin is advertising a do for NYE - does anyone know anything about it? Is it a bit 'touristy'? Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Quick resurrection for this;
Spending a weekend in La Herradura soon and was looking for personal recommendations for restaurants here and Almunecar.
In particular there was a discussion on a thread somewhere about the best chinese being in either H or A. I seem to remember it was run by family of the Jing in Torrox?

If they are open La Tartana is excellent.

Re: Recommendations for La Herradura?
La Tartana has a new chef from a very good restaurant in Almuñécar which recently closed so it should be better than it was which was a bit patchy.
The restaurants in La Herradura that I would recommend are Nuevo Arenas, Casa Antonio, Chema, Pizzeria Italia and La Sardina. In Almuñécar, El Arbol Blanca, El Chaleco and Sheng (Asian). There are plenty more, but those are the ones I keep going back to. Sheng is run by the family that run Jing in Torrox but is much better.

Jings in Torrox is very very ordinary. Its ok if you want a 7 euro menu. I hope the one you recommend Sid is a lot better.

Yes, I agree with you about Jing, but Sheng is in a totally different league.

Yes, it's called Feng. I'd say it was better than Jing, but not quite as good as Sheng. Sheng has a more varied menu with a lot of other Asian dishes rather than just Chinese.

Re: Recommendations for La Herradura?
Thought it was, thanks. I agree both pretty average and nothing to write home about. I prefer Jings in Torrox purely because of the breeze it gets blowing through.
The place in Algarrobo is just stifling in the summer, last 2 times we've been it was just too uncomfortably hot to in any way enjoy a meal........just yearning to get outside again.

Re: Recommendations for La Herradura?
I booked to stay for 4 days at La Tartana a while ago
Absolute shambles,no hot water,no food available that day,no tv,place wasn't clean.,no staff around.
We left after one night.
Can't recommend

Thanks for recommendations especially for Sheng.

We stayed at La Tartana a few years ago and it was very good. Almost fine dining.
Jed and Amanda were the owners then. It may have changed hands since.

No,they were still there,or should I say occasionally there.
Very offhand ,very aloof, very high opinion of themselves and their establishment (not deserved).
