There is an excellent place down the alley on the left of the cinema that is next to the Roman theatre. They make little effort to publicise the fabulous menu del dia, hoping you'll go for more expensive options, but it's there if you ask for it.

There are a few vegetarian restaurants in Malaga,http://www.happycow.net where you can search for anywhere in the world that is veggie friendly.
For a recommendation I would suggest a place just past the Thyssen museum, towards the river,it's called "The Grill Club" and it does carnivore, vegan & vegetarian options.
Another option is Recyclo in Marqués de Villafiel, 4.It's very close to the market.
http://www.recyclobike.com/en/.It's a bike shop with a cafe next door.A good selection of beers & menu del dia options.
I've been to both places a few times and would go again when in Malaga.

Try, Pitta Bar, Calle Echegary8. 952608675. Best Middle Eastern cuisine. Try the Mulabai(aubergine cream) or hummus(chickpea cream) they are great.
