Tried a new place yesterday, and was very tempted to try the Pork Thingy

One local cafe here offers a breakfast deal of "pitufo y cafe solo €2.50" - or for non-Spanish speakers: "smurf & coffee only €2.50"

Great , but that sounds like one of my translations...

I've seen many blunders over the years, some hilarious, but I'm sure we all at some time do the same with our Spanish translations.
I smile every time I think of the sign in a shop nearby to us that stated 'We Speek ingliss', he only had a few words like ' OK mate' and 'Cheers'.

And the recent sign spotted on a van that stated the name of the company as 'The Final Solution', a plumbing firm...

Regards,
Gordon

I like the sound of the "Cocked:chicpta" at the top of your photo.

There is a blog called f...translation that specialises in this kind of thing. My favourite example: vino en botella = he came in bottle.

I find it amazing that many restaurants - even those with a steady and regular English speaking clientele - choose to have their translating done by "Pepe's cousin's boy who once had a penfriend in Birmingham". Still, it provides us with endless amusement!

Don't forget English run restaurants with bad Spanish translations! One that stuck in my amused mind was; rollito de muella.......spring roll but the coiled metal kind.
