Recommendation for restaurants in Gauci/Ronda
Can we please have any comments about restaurants (preferably local sopanish as opposed to 'international') in the Gaucin and Ronda areas. Also, where would you go for a celebration meal?
Gaucin is very 'international' on the restaurant scene. For tapas, Bar PacoPepe next the the new fountain in the centre of the village is very good. Eat outside and people watch.
The neighbouring village of Benarraba has a few good places to eat.
Cafe-Bar Guayacan on the left as you reach the village serves excellent tapas. The restaurant at the Banu Rabah Hotel on the far side of the village (sign posted) serves good traditional food, the curried lamb casserole is a firm favourite. In contrast to Gaucin, this village is very Spanish.
We were in the area last week and a morrocan restaurant at Jimera was highly recommended. You can go there on the train, the nearest station being Estacion de Cortes. Leaving Gaucin and heading towards Ronda after about 5 minutes take a left turn towards Cortes de la Frontera and follow the road down into the valley which takes you directly to the station. Plenty of parking, so you can leave the car, Jimera is just one or two stops from Estacion de Cortes and the restaurant is located inside an old engine shed. I think it's called Quercas, definitely begins with a Q anyway!
For a celebration meal, Tragabuches in Ronda, is one of the most famous restaurants in Spain, complete with Michelin star!
Have fun and don't forget to report back with any 'little gems' you may happen to find on your travels.
