Music events - mostly blues/jazz

Postby alisonb » Wed May 06, 2009 2:08 pm

How about we use a thread to post details of upcoming concerts. I know the andalucia site has some, but I don't think they are always up to date. We missed one of our all time heroes (Bill Frisell) first year we were here, cos we didn't see the advert until after the concert. Having done a lot of Googling recently, this year seems a particularly fine one for music, mostly in July. These are dates and links to details of some of them (you need to put www. in front of all website addresses as the message too many URLs to post):

Antequerra Blues Festival July (site not updated for this year yet, but dates more or less same as last year

Cordoba Guitar Festival July

Alhaurin de la Torre El Porton de Jazz July Not updated yet. but I know that John Scofield is on 10th July

Thanks both. I was hoping people would add others as they knew about them. Hilly - not sure about the line up at Lorca - not the most handsome ensemble in the world - particularly the guy with 3 hands!

This is for Barcelona - both the Jazz Festival in the autumn and various other concerts. And Jeff Beck is on in July - maybe Ryanair will have the 5 euro flights on soon. It's getting to be an expensive year this year - thank goodness Almunecar isn't expensive.

Booked my tickets for John Fogerty (see you there, Alison!), the Pretenders and Taj Mahal in Cordoba...now trying to decide whether to go to see Bruce Springsteen in Sevilla or The Eagles in Madrid...or both.

Tell me about it! Depeche Mode are playing in Sevilla too, but on the 12th July, which is the day after the John Fogerty gig
Avellana, what a shame...I'll tell you all about it lol.

I'm sure Hilly will agree - the John Fogerty concert was brilliant. The venue (Teatro Axerquia) in Cordoba is a wonderful concert venue - open air, sat on stone steps (don't they hold the heat). Hope everyone else has enjoyed everything they've seen.

For anyone local - there is a classical guitar competition in Velez Malaga starts today. In the evenings there are a variety of concerts which will, I think, be free. We've been last few years, and it's been really good.

Yes JF was excellent, The Pretenders were even better tho lol! Unfortunately Taj Mahal cancelled and the cancellation was NOT well publicised and so there were a lot of disgruntled would-be concert goers in Cordoba that night, me included!
The Teatro de la Axerquia is a very good venue, easy to get to. Couldn't believe the number of Spanish fans JF has...they knew all the words too! Did you see the guy who'd taken all his CCR album covers to the gig?!
The Eagles next week

If my other half had known they were showing off covers he would have taken all his own! I've never seen so many middle aged air guitars all in one place. I'm really jealous of you seeing the Pretenders. Enjoy the Eagles. We're off to Almunecar next for John Scofield. Southern Spain really does well for music. We were very pleasantly surprised when we came.

Ama
Thanks for the information about upcoming music.
I doubt if I'll get to any as my husband is not a nightbird!

Hillybilly
Shame about Taj Mahal and the lack of publicity about the cancellation.

I'm considering going to UK next year for Hard Rock in Hyde Park.
This year's line-up was excellent!
