Buskers & street entertainers............

Postby scotty » Wed May 26, 2010 11:12 pm

Here in Dublins shopping areas good buskers and street entertainers are allowed and earn good money from passersby. Why do we see very few buskers in the towns in spain ?

We see plenty of Buskers in Nerja, but good ones, no. They are a pain in the proverbial. If you want to sit for a quiet drink or a meal in the main town area be prepared to be bombarded with the accordian players and the guitar strummers following each other in close succession. Then they go to each table cap in hand and wait for you to cough up some money. It can really spoil an evening. However, if a good musician was to come by then that would be different, but sadly I have not seen one.

Never give them money.
if they want to play La Cuccaracca endlessly at my table with their hand out then that's up to them, they'll wait till hell freezes over.
It's noise pollution, normally they get the gist with me and exit table left.

What your talking about are not buskers. Buskers in Ireland stay in one place and perform. They are "street entertainers". I'm with you guys and dislike the wandering minstrels  that come into restaurants.

This is what I'm talking about http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3SopT5OkhY

I love the buskers in Covent Garden. An entertainer will typically sing about 4 songs or there may be a string quartet. Another part has blues and jazz singers. Great talent and they really love playing the crowds. I have been going most weeks with my friends. Try the Crusting Pipe, fab food in one of the old vaults. Or sit outside and listen to the entertainers. Some on you tube

The ones that used to píss me off were the "buskers" in Fish alley, Fuengirola. 2 lines were about their limit totally talentless. We stopped eating there it was such a pain in the ass. Used to be nice a few years ago. Worse than the buskers were the chinese with the squeaky toys, I sometimes felt like wringing their neck

I can play a guitar and hold a tune and I applied to the Nerja Town Hall in February this year for a Summers busking licence in and around the Nerja area.

I was refused: official letter and all but no reason given.

My spanish friends have said "just do it", Nike-style, but I'm afraid of getting a fine.
putting the "ANDA" into Andalucía..:)

Not if you hear the ones in Fish Alley, Fuengirola. Sure it keeps many people away. Certainly did us and a few more people I know. Buskers is too kind a word for them

Covent garden has some really talented ones.
