Quite the contrary. There is nothing AT ALL happening amongst the expat community which I find shocking. For some reason it seems that those from the south have forgotten their heritage (I wonder if they even light a bonfire anymore).

Those of us from the north used to look forward to April 23rd. I have great memories of going to school dressed as crusader & having mock sword fights in the playground.

What on earth was on the curriculum down south while the rest of us studied the battle of Stamford Bridge & other notable events in England's history?

No idea, but up north it was the Battle of Bannockburn

He is also the patron saint of Catalonia, so try Barcelona if you want celebrations. St George’s Day is celebrated there as a day for lovers.

For the last couple of years, and again this year, The Chapel Bar in Nerja (I know, a long way from Alhaurin) holds a St George's Fun Day. It is sort of like a mini fete with Tug of War, Stocks, Quoits and numerous fete-style games for kids and adults, plus BBQ.This year it will be held on the day before (Sunday) but will not finish until the day itself. The proceeds go to the Royal British Legion. Everyone deserves the chance to be patriotic once a year if they want to.

St George’s Day is being celebrated in Plaza Mezquita, Arroyo de La Miel from 11am this coming Saturday, 21 April.
A day of non-stop entertainment has been planned for the all the family featuring some of the Costa del Sol’s top acts including Jason Oliver, who regularly performs here at CLC World’s Costa del Sol resorts.

The celebration will be opened by the British Vice Consul and Alcalde de Benalmadena Javier Carnero.
