Vinuela

Why is Vinuela reservoir so low - comperaed to others. Looking at malagaweather.com you can see that the others refill at least occasionally. Vinuela doesn't!

Does anyone know why?

Yes - of course that is a part of the answer but if you look at the charts for all the other reservoirs in the south they all replenished last winter to a some degree or other - except Vinuela!

I think viñuela reservoir supplies malaga city, so that could explain why it struggles to keep the level up.

Is Lake Iznahar included in your charts for the South!?

My estimate is that it is only 25% full and has been so for ages. It supplies water to Lucena, Cordoba etc as well as numerous irrigation tubes legitimately sucking water out of the river after the lake.

Like Vinuela, this region also has had very little in the way of precipitation in the last 3 years. Demand is outstripping supply. Well drilling companies cannot keep up with demand for new wells and most of the water so extracted doesn't make it to reservoirs "downstream".

It does not bode well for the future.

Iznahar is also listed and shows the volume of water as down on last year but they have showed some sign of replenishing over the year unlike Vinuela.

Was shocked at how low the levels of Lake Vinuela were when we went down there on Monday, with at least the next 6 months likely to be very dry it will be desperate by October.

I wonder how people's wells are doing in the Vinuela area? Are they giving the same, less or more water than this time in previous years?

Talking to people around Lake Iznahar the wells are giving a lot less than this time last year. A bit of a problem as the farmers are spraying their olives about now!

Apparently, the leak in Lake Vinuela (we named 'the puddle') was a silly story. How can you have a leak in a Lake? I read somewhere, they have stopped Malaga taking the water from 'the puddle' meantime.
