Should he take the money and run?

Postby RichardCoeurdeLion » Sun Nov 29, 2015 8:55 pm

A friend owns two properties, one on top of the other, which can be used as one big place or two separate units, on a well know urbanisation near Estepona. For various reasons he's had to move back to the uk, and he won't be coming back to Spain. He didn't need the money from the houses to get restablished in the uk but he wants to sell up. Until this happens he gets the odd holiday let and has to pay the quite expensive community fees. He's had an offer for both properties. He says he is inclined to wait a bit longer in the hope that the property market improves.
I appreciate no one can see into the future, but what is the general feeling on how things are likely to progress over the next few years.
Thanks

Property prices are rising, so, if he doesn't need the money he should wait.

Even a slight increase in price will be way above the interest on the money he will get if he sells now.

Sell. Take the money and get on with the next thing. What is he going to do with the extra money anyway except pay taxes and put it in a bank for 0% interest. Just move on and enjoy life. :D

Some people prefer simpler lives and he might prefer to sell for that reason.
That's what I would probably do. Sell up, close that chapter.

I'd be inclined to agree with take the money and move on,my father had this similar situation, he took a dreadful loss but he added up the costs of keeping the property and it would have been more expensive to keep, at least now he has cash to possibly buy again or live reasonably well!

if you confirm your friend is aware that this is on public forum I will be happy to engage with this topic..
you say he does not need the money and he wants to wait... end of story.

I do hope you told this person you were doing this...

I can't remember if I told him I was putting this on A.com.
However I think he would be OK with it
And as I can't see how he could be identified I'm don't think I'm breaking any confidences.
