Alora
Alora
Just wondering, does anyone know Alora and the surrounding area well? What are the pro's and con's of living in and around there or is there anywhere nearby that is better. We are still considering areas although we have never been to Alora we like the look of it.
Re: Alora
We visited once by train. Got off at the station, looked at the surrounds, particularly the hill and just got straight back on the train!!!
A second visit by car a year or two later did nothing to change my views.......many more attractive villages around.

Re: Alora
I lived in Alora for 10 years before returning to the UK in Nov 2014.
Briefly the pros include good communications both by train and road. Easy to get to Malaga and the Airport. It has plenty of local shops including a good Mercadona Supermercado. Excellent countryside around it. If you consider being away from the tourist hordes on the coast as a pro then, yes, it is.
For us the cons related to the summer temps being slightly higher than on the coast. Similarly, winter can be a tad cooler. Otherwise the cons are those that apply generally to living in Spain!
Incidentally it wasn't Alora that made us decide to leave Spain.

Hi jogger,
"It sounds really hilly maybe a bit much for a bike."
Just get some bigger sprockets on the back............

Morning Jogger,
It may too far from the coast for you...but I suggest a day out to Iznajar. Spectacular scenery although the town itself is uphill from any direction. We bought last year in one of the surrounding villages.
Good hunting !.. all the best

Yes but nothing ever stays the same. Do you find it better worse or just different?

Re: Alora
i like it. good transport links, not far from anywhere. the new roads improve things.. its being slowly being improved and modernised. although this is happening, its still very spanish.
