ecoflow "H2flow" fights calcium build up?

Postby ashtondav » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:22 am

Hello

I was out recently and had my electric water heater service as our apartment is now 4 years old.

I was stunned when the plumber came out of the room carrying a plastic shopping bag half full of calcium which he had removed from the elements and the heater. I suppose i shouldn't have been too surprised considering the scale on the kettle elements and so on. He recommended I look into "H2flow" (he had no connection and was not a distributor) as many of his clients had been satisfied.

Anyway, when i got back I looked at a few options and decided to give this "H2flow" device a trial. Its meant to solve the problem of calcium build up by the application of strong magnets to the water inlet pipe. I was a bit sceptical but the vendor has provided a written money back guarantee if I do not notice any improvement within 3 months.

I will keep an eagle eye on my kettle elements and water flow over the next 3 months to see if there is any improvement. I just wondered if anyone has tried this stuff either in Spain or in the UK and their views. Either way i will post back in 3 months time when i better understand its success (or lack of it).

Any other (NON CHEMICAL/SALT) solutions spring to mind?

There was a thread on this before and there would seem to be two possible methods. One is a filter system which certainly works. The other is magnets, either electro-magnets or powerful ceramic ones. I was tempted to try the ceramic ones out but have not got round to it yet as it means hacking out a lump of wall to expose enough pipe to fasten the magnets on. Also the science behind the magnets seems somewhat flaky. It claims to magnetically align the ions of the calcium thus inhibiting it from sticking to the pipes. Feedback from anyone who has tried these magnets would be interesting.

Right, I read that thread and it looked like "Toddcl" was going to fit one.

So Toddcl, have i wasted my money or will my pipes run clear?

Hi

I just bought a Hydroflow unit, HS38. It fits around the water inlet pipe and keeps the calcium particles moving through the system without sticking to pipes and appliances. It also dislodges existing limescale build up and clears the whole system after a few months.

I know someone who had one installed a year ago and there was a marked difference when his boiler was serviced after a year with this device.

Running costs are very low too.

I was advised that these electric devices are far better than magnetic.

For more information Google Limescale control or similar various models are available. Scalewatcher, Little Plumber and Hydroflow are the three main ones.

This Hydroflow looks like some miracle gadget out of your early morning tv shop show. I really wonder if it would work.

How much did you pay for it? Must have been alot cheaper than a filter.

Hi - they tend to cost betwen 200 & 300 euro fitted.

We know from a personal friend who is a gas fitter/plumber that they work, as he has seen the results, a year after one was fitted on a client's boiler.

Ours has been fitted 5 weeks now but it will take a few months for the existing build up to be broken down and washed out of the system.

Check the website for detailed info on how it works.

Thanks for the info.

Boilers cost 100 euros each and I guess they run like 3-4 years without major service.

I'm trying to locate a dealer in this area and have him try to convince me...

I believe boilers in our area don't last anything like as long as 3 to 4 years, so it could still be worth fitting a Hydroflow, but each to their own.

The local guy offered one at 280 euros and I'm considering.

At the moment I'm much more interested in rainwater harvesting and greywater recirculation.
