chippings for garden area

Postby alaninspain » Sat Jul 14, 2007 12:09 pm

I thought I had posted this question and now I can not find it any where. I will tryagain.
My friend has just moved into a new house and there is a patch of scrub garden he wants to cover with chippings about 2" round. He has already put down weedkiller, and rubberised matter. We went to Leroy Merlin for a look and they sell bags of the right stuff but it would cost about 700 to 800 Euros to buy it that way. Are there any proper builder's merchants who could deliver a pallet by hyab over a 6 foot wall? Any suggestion would help, provided it doesn't smart.

At around around 8 euros a ton from local builders merchants, gravel is a cheaper alternative.

Aesthetically, I'd go for wood chippings but if your mate's house is prone to strong winds then gravel may be the better option. €700 sounds a lot though - what size area are we talking about?

I dont know anything about prices, just wanted to say that the blackbirds love wood chippings  they make a flaming mess throwing them around while they look for food :x

The area of my mate's garden to be covered is about 15x15 feet, and it is quite sheltered so maybe wood choippings would be a good idea. Thank you.

I thought we were talking about wood chippings.
Here in Canada they are usually made from cedar and are very effective and rather attractive.

Spanish biker: That sounds perfect - please let me know address and cost when you have it. It shows how different Spain is from the UK, even before you have ordered anything you get asked how you are going to pay for it.

If any of you have a prunings shredder (can't think what they are called!) machine, be careful NOT to shred oleander cuttings - they are poisonous. We heard of someone who used oleander sticks to make kebabs, and nearly killed all his friends!
No one round here seems to do anything other than burn the small stuff that is no good for the chimenea, and surely making it into chippings is better?
