Bricomart
I see Bricomart have announced they are to open a store in Malaga.
It seems strange to me that they are going to locate it in the Guadalmar area. This would put them in local competition with Leroy Merlin, Bauhaus and AKI. Would it not make more sense to locate it east of Malaga where they wouldn't have such competition and have a large catchment area? It's not as if they wouldn't know about the other stores as the owners of Bricomart also own Leroy Merlin and AKI.
Seems a strange business decision to me. A bit like building ASDA next door to Tesco and Morrisons.
Or am I just wishing they would build it closer to me for selfish reasons?

Re: Bricomart
it's a good marketing decision to locate close to your competition. Customers are already heading that direction, then its up to you to attract them in to your business rather that the established businesses.
(It would be nice if they were East of Malaga tho'......)
Perhaps the owners did a deal on rents as they already have the other two stores there.

Still seems strange to me. There is, as far as I am aware, no similar store to the east of Malaga so they would be able to attract all those customers that live east of Malaga that currently have to go west of Malaga. Surely it is better to have no competition.

Re: Bricomart
Are they the same as Bricodepot ? Hubby visited the one in Granada, and hasn't stopped raving about it since

Re: Bricomart
I believe they are different. Bricodepot apparently sells more to the building trade rather than the normal DIYer. Bricdepot is also owned by Kingfisher, which is different to Bricomart.

Depends how far east, isn't there a bricomart near Almeria.
Re: Bricomart
Think there are many potential customers that would appreciate one in Velez Malaga or close.

I'm thinking of somewhere between Rincon de la Victoria and Nerja. That is a large catchment area and includes the Velez area. Plenty of potential customers that would appreciate not having to drive to the other side of Malaga.

Re: Bricomart
There are advantages to having a cluster of suppliers in an area: it is easy to cross-check prices and quality, and it cuts the risk of something being out of stock (given that Spanish traders have not yet caught on the having a full catalogue with interactive stock check per store like Argos and many others) with consequent wasted travel and time.
When I opened a print shop in Harrogate I wanted to be right next door to Prontaprint, but sadly a knicker shop got there first!
The only pity from my and Steve's point of view is that the area is "over there" rather than "just down here"!

I do see the advantage of having a cluster of suppliers but the advantage is to the customers going there anyway. However, from my point of view as Peter rightly says, the cluster is over there.
I still view it as a missed business opportunity not locating a store in an area that has nothing like it just now.

Re: Bricomart
Has Bricomart in Malaga opened yet?
We had a large DIY store by us named ReforPlus in Lucena (Cordoba Province) it closed down recently. It was more like a Homebase rather than a B&Q.
Has anyone been to Bricomart in Almeria or anywhere else? How does it differ from Leroy Merlin, Aki and Bauhaus?

Re: Bricomart
The Bricomart is just before Almeria at the turn off you would take to go down to Roquetas, also the turn off to gran plaza and Leroys, Bricomart is great, its like B&Q loads better than Leroys, its a proper DIY type place and loads cheaper than Leroys although owned by the same company, Leroys is more up market I suppose, but can't hold a candle to Bricomart.

Plenty seem to drive to Leroy Merlin and Bauhaus. Not necessarily for screws / bricks / guttering but for everything else they sell and pick up screws whilst there.spanish_lad wrote:Campo Steve wrote:I'm thinking of somewhere between Rincon de la Victoria and Nerja.
