Terracotta tiles

Postby Paulm67 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 5:27 am

I'm looking for some of the chunky rustic terracotta floor tiles I've seen in various houses, the type with little or no.glaze and about half inch thick. Are they available from Leroy Merlin or Bricomart? Anyone got any ideas where else?

They are available at just about every builders merchant I've been to.
Leroy Merlin, Bricomart and tile shops tend not to stock them.
If you included your location, in Spain, then someone might be able to tell you exactly who stocks them near you.
Cheers

No idea on cost but they are a trade and retail place and I have always had a good deal in there. Not sure how good your Spanish is but there is only one guy who speaks English. Thats the downside of living in real Spain and not la la land

Have you tried Tejeiro Materiales de Construction on the A7207 out of Competa?

I'd be very surprised if they don't sell them.

Ask for "losas" ('slabs', literally).

We bought ours in that very Town  The builders merchants at the top of the hill on the road you'd turn right in to coming from Competa. I assume they are still in business.

Asked a near neighbour and he has just bought some 38 cm X 38 cm for about €1.40 each.
Last time I bought some, more than 10 years ago, I seem to remember them being about €1 each.
Cheers

Gerry, you can get these on the loop road in Benagalbon on the way around to Cano - about 40 cents each (the one with the pool if you can give any better directions)

elscouser - We usually purchase these kind of tiles at out local builders yard, they also have 33cm x 33cm as well as the size gerryh mentioned.

You probably know this - those rustic terracotta tiles act like a sponge, if you're laying them on a solid mortar bed (not using a toothed adhesive trowel) soak them in water before laying, the same applies to grouting with mortar, spray the edges before grouting.

good tips from elscouser - the 33x33s are usually less fragile. I laid ours on a mortar bed, well soaked and "squiggled" into place not just placed. After the recent dirty rain I have just power-washed all 15 sq m with no damage to the mortar grouting, just to my back!
