Pipe / cable detector thingy!

Postby PavAmber » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:12 pm

Hi
Does anyone know what the Spanish term for one of those pipe/cable detector devices is and would a ferreteria be likely to have one? I mean the sort to stop me killing myself when drilling into a wall. :wtf:

Thanks

How about "Cable Y Tubo detector" that is what they are listed as on Ebay.es

I have one of these devices. It works fine on pipes and cables under UK-style plaster, plasterboard and floorboards, but is foxed by the dense concrete/masonry walls we have here.

Strangely, despite being here for 5 weeks now, I can still only find one inside the house. We haven't found the mains stop-*beep* yet. Spoke to previous owner who vaguely said "it's at the bottom of the track". The track is not short! It was going to make another question for the forum soon, whether you are allowed to just house your stop - *beep* in one of those "agua-potable" mini house jobs and somehow give some protection to what appears to just be a strong hosepipe appearing half way up said track!

Oh joy. Will speak with our ferreteria and see if they have any experience of good ones.

Remind me why we moved here again......?!

I have done exactly that, just outside my gate, and my water supply company are more than happy.
Our water supply comes from a deposita higher up the hill side.
It supplies water to 7 houses.
I put in an extra stop-*beep*, again near my house, to cut off the supply to all the houses as it is a fairly regular occurrence for someone to chop through the supply pipe going down the track to the houses below mine.

Cheers

Thanks Gerry.
Is it an expensive job? Were you required to get permission from the water supply company (don't even know who ours is!) prior to the works?

Also, if the supply goes to 7 houses, how do they measure usage, or are there meters somewhere along the line?

Cheers
Richard

Not expensive because I did it myself.
No didn't ask permission, I don't think they are bothered as long as the water usage is metered and the bills paid.
Each house has it's own meter after the connection which is tapped off the main supply pipe.

Thank you Gerry. Sounds like first thing is to find the stopcock and identify who my supplier is / where the supply run pipe goes.

Much appreciated

You don't need any permission, as the installation after the meter is your property (although the water company should have a stop-*beep* right before the meter as well?!).
Hope that helps.
