Linea Directa House Insurance and Door Locks

Postby gerryh » Tue Jun 13, 2017 5:32 pm

I am considering using Linea Directa house insurance.
Just been reading the small print and talking to them.
They say I need door locks where you turn the key twice to securely lock the door.
I know the type of lock barrel that does this, there is one on the door of my below ground storage area.
But what are they call in Spanish?
Easy enough to replace but I need to know what to ask for.
Cheers

Hi Gerry,
They're commonly sold under Tesa brand.
Any good ferreteria should have them.
Different models, though, so take an old mechanism to match it, if replacing an existing lock.

Security locks, or deadlocks, in English.
Look on almost any Spanish pressed steel frontdoor, and you'll see one fitted - they usually have 3, 4 or 5 steel bolts which engage when locked, as well as the tapered tongue. Every decent ferreteria sells them, LM and Bauhaus too.

Thanks for thye replies.
I was hoping to just change the euro cylinder but I don't think they exist in the "two turns" to fully lock variety.
Might need a complete new lock.
Will have a look in Leyroy Merlin today as I still don't know what they are called in Spanish.

If you are thinking about the multi bolt full length security locks, it is a Cerradura de empotrar multipunto

That's what we have in our doors and that was acceptable to Linea Directa.

Went to have a look at them in Leroy Merlin, in Malaga, but they don't stock them have to be ordered in.
Bricomart had several slightly different makes/ designs of the same thing.
Unfortunately can't fit them to my aluminium doors, the box sections of the door stiles are too small.
All that I have found so far are more secure versions of the euro cylinder lock barrel that are fitted to my door locks.
None of them are available in the "two turns" to fully lock versions.

Gerry,
We have the double lock door lock ( Teba) and I replaced the barrel after another expat stole a set of our keys.
We actually got the replacement barrels from a specialist locksmith shop, he had a huge range of locks and fittings and was very helpful with advice.
I don't know if you have access to this type of shop but I would recommend them and they may be able to offer you a suitable replacement barrel for your existing lock.
The locks were actually cheaper than a hardware shop nearby.
Regards,
Gordon

If you want a locksmith there is one in Rincon. Just down the road from where you live. It is in the side street near to where the market is held.

I guess you mean the street with the post office on it?
Will have a look tomorrow, hopefully.
