building a new house in Granada

Postby hangoverocks » Wed Sep 27, 2017 2:13 pm

From 2010 to 2015 we looked for a house to buy in the city of Granada, we must have visited between 80 and 100 properties for sale.
My wife has particular requirements - she needs a large workshop (80 - 100 m2) and, in the end we could not find anywhere with a suitable workshop space so in December 2014 we decided to buy a ruin and demolish it for a new build Image.
Work did not start until August 2016 due to one year of searching for a builder, but the new house was more-or-less complete by May 2017 (approx 100 working days of building).

Since completion 4 months ago we have not yet moved-in because of regulations (necessary Certificate of First Occupation) - we thought we had been clever by "borrowing" electricity and water from the neighbours during the build, but now we have a house without power or water. We are currently trying to contract for "builders supply" of water and electricity so that we can move-in while waiting for our Certificate of First Occupation.
Meanwhile I have started work on the garden using water carried from the street and battery-powered tools.
If anyone wishes to know any of the many lessons we learned please feel free to ask here!
Hasta luego,
Simon

I must say your rebuild is a stark contrast to the ruin that it was and it looks really modern for a place like Granada..I wish you well with your new home and hope it won't be too long before you have electricity and water.

Good luck, hope you get your utilities sorted swiftly, would like to see you your Facebook Video but sadly the link you give won't allow general access to view. Probably set "viewable to your Facebook friends" only

Ah! Thank you for pointing that out! We had some neighbour issues and I had to restrict who was able to see the videos on Facebook - but that was a year ago! I have changed the permission to "Public", many thanks.
