My pool is leaking quite a lot having to leave water trickling in not going to be at the house for 5 to 8 months what are the problem if I drained the pool would not need to leave water on and pool cleaner would not need to call every week

I think you'll have to tell us what it's made of first: Concrete; tiled concrete; or fibreglass.......or?

Then emptying it will not create any more problems for you. If the leak is somewhere in thefinished surface of the pool, you will have to empty it anyway to find the leak.

Far better not to trickle water in, but to allow the level to drop until it stays constant, this will then give an indication as to where the leak may be, and then fix it.
You can still circulate the water whilst the level is dropping by closing the skimmers and opening the sump drain.
