Weedkiller

Postby toffeeboy on Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:03 am

Hello.

We need to get some dog friendly weed killer, do you think my OH would be able to bring some back in her suitcase from the UK, or would it be classed as a poison?

If it is in the hold in a suitcase, i imagine it is ok as I have brought it in the past that way, not sure even if the granuales would be ok in hand luggage though.

Weed killer is one of the main ingredients used in home made explosives, you may have trouble getting it onto a plane.

All the garden centres I have been to all sell weed killers.

All weedkillers are quite safe for animals when they have dried. Just keep the dog in for a couple of hours. You certainly should not be putting it in your luggage on a plane.
From what I have read it seems some weedkillers in the uk would not be safe to use over here because of the heat. And they are cheaper to buy here anyway.

Any weedkiller containing Glycophosphate is safe enough providing you let it dry for an hour before you let the dogs out. Dont let the chemical get into ponds or rivers, fish dont like it.

Hi Martin,
Nicely put ............

This is the land of Chemicals :!: :!: ...........I think you have a saying..........."coals to Newcastle "

Small amounts local garden centres, Agri store on your Poligono for 5L/20L amounts of the stuff.

Glifosert 36 is an example.

Roundup is readily available but if you want a larger quantity Atila is cheaper and most of the "professionals" use that (judging by the number of empty cans hanging from the trees in the Campo).

Yes I know - it's only the prices that are different.

Hi,
You will certainly pay good money for "Roundup" , but then again you don't want 5L of the local brew sitting around if you're only spaying a few weed leaves. :D
Should be able to pick up 5L Glifosert 36 for 37€ inc IVA in your local Agri store.

I've used Roundup and Weedol several times this year and the things I wanted dead are still thriving. There is something the locals use that is very effective but all I know about it is they get it from the olive oil factory.

Used at the correct dilutions and with adequate coverage Roundup (and similar) will even kill small trees so I think you may have a problem with the application.

I have bought the local weedkiller here for about 10 euros. Ask for herbicida, the one I have is about a litre and you only need 100mls of it with 5 litres of water. Spray it on the weeds and within days they are dying off. I do keep my cat inside while I do it and until it has dried.

Hi tarotwoman,
Sounds like you have Agent Orange  , Glifosert 36 takes about 10 days before things start to die.
