Parthenocissus quinouefolia 'engelmani'

Postby K chameleon » Tue Apr 21, 2009 2:31 pm

Oh what Joy! I've just popped down to Lidl's and snapped one up (I'm not typing it again).
Googled, and it's just what I want. But.....
Can I keep it in a pot, and if so, what size?
It's less than 2ft. tall at the moment. with some new growth.
Thanx in anticipation :D

Just googled it too - it's a Virginia Creeper! Should grow well anywhere, and could cover the whole house in a couple of years. They look fantastic in Autumn when the leaves change colour :D

Virginia Creeper isn´t a pot plant. It grows quite rampantly and quickly covers walls, fences, pergolas etc. It looses its leaves in winter. Don´t expect very exciting flowers as it´s grown mostly for the very attractive leaf colours in the Autumn.

I never knew that was its proper name. We live and learn!!
My sister has got one and it covers the whole of the outside of her house practically.
I wouldn't have thought it would be possible to keep it in a pot.

The plant grows quickly, with a single bush able to produce several million seeds each year, and chokes neighbouring plants as well as killing off animal life
oh crikey, you have bought a triffid!
dont for gods sake let it climb up your property. :?

Hi all.
I don't want it to cover my newly whitewashed walls . Only want it to grow about 4m x 4m to cover a fence that's in the shade 4 months a year. It's a concrete base. I thought Hubby could build me a brick planter, but how deep x wide would it need to be?
thanx again.

It sounds perfect for what you need and I don't see any reason for not planting it in a brick planter. I have grown one very successfully in a very large terracotta pot.
