Whats this 'fruit' called

Postby Martin Page » Sun Dec 21, 2014 12:09 pm

Its a vine grown fruit/veg ... Green, hard, pears shaped and wrinkled. Its larger than a standard pear and grows from the 'fruit' not a seed
When I was given it the guy called it something like a treorchy or trichlorchee something like that. It was planted on its side and only half covered to a natural crease on its base from where the tap root started from. (A bit like you grow a avocado)
its a very scruffy grower, but shot ahead when it got to the wire fence and was able to climb. It started flowering little white insignificant flowers in September and produced identical fruit as the seed, in abundance,(some 20 fruit)

I've not seen anything like it on the veg stalls and I cant find any record of anything like in all my plant books and without a name I don't know what to do with it
