Not seen astilbe anywhere and if i recall correctly from my gardening days, they were always useful for partial shade (although would tolerate full sun) and were often used in damp areas which were common on the clay soils where I used to live, so not too sure if hot dry conditions would suit. On balance I'd say "no!

Have just heard from plant centre in Competa, it is available in the springtime.

Whist Astibli is a beautiful plant, its primary requirement is a cool climate and is permanently wet roots in a clay soil.
It is tradition a river margin or bog plant.
Whilst I can see it possible to find clay soil here in Spain , I can see water is going to be a major issue for it. I would suggest that this is going to be a fight against nature here.
If you cant find it easily there may be an obvious reason for it
