Yucca elimination

Postby ashtondav » Fri Oct 23, 2015 3:59 pm

We are infested by yuccas. I keep cutting them down but that just encourages them. I want ELIMINATION of most of them.

Anyone know a sure fire yucca elimination process or person round Frigi area?

Never had to adopt such extreme measures with Yuccas
....but I suspect the trusty roundup (glyphosate) will oblige: cut them down to a stump then drill holes in the remaining base, particularly around the perimeter, and pour in the (said) neat stuff.

Dig them out, the roots are not too deep.

I wonder if you mean agaves https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agave or similar type of plant, as I have never had a problem with yuccas reproducing and taking over an area. Our agaves (or similar) are popping up all over the place as they send our runners underground, Another one has just flowered sending up a huge flower stalk about 10 feet high which is now covered in tiny baby plants which it is shedding everywhere. We need to cut it down but it is a bit difficult to reach!

No I mean yuccas not agaves. Digging out is not an option as these are huge trees, that have formed large clumps

How about chain sawing them down and keeping them as Bushes?

Yuccas!! Why on earth did people plant these monsters in the first place. Every time you anywhere close they stab you with their pointy spiky leaves. We recently moved to a villa with a garden (hadn't planned for this and 4 years ago left all gardening tools in UK). Anyway, we inherited some massive yuccas and indeed we cut them down to a sensible height (or rather I got someone else to do it) but the trunk size is massive so digging these monsters out is a no no unless you could get a mini digger in and then it would struggle.
So, now they are manageable but still taking up too much space.
